An event recognising illustrious members of the Valencia region took place at the Ayuntamiento city hall on Friday, on the occasion of the October 9th festivities. One of the winners of the city's gold medal award was the Banco de Alimentos food bank, which has collaborated closely with Valencia CF in recent months. The organisation have used Mestalla as a distribution centre for non-perishable food, supplying thousands of families in need due to the Covid-19 crises.
Banco de Alimentos president Jaume Serra expressed his gratitude to the club for its help upon collecting the honour.
“This morning we distributed food at Mestalla, and at 12:30pm we went to the City Hall, where we who participate in the project had the honour of being recognised for the work we have been undertaking. It was very emotional and very exciting. This year the Banco de Alimentos has turned 25, so it is our silver anniversary. This award recognises the thousands of people who collaborate with the project as volunteers, the many companies that contribute their donations and those people who also make selfless financial contributions. Through the project at Mestalla alone we have helped 6,700 people,” he told VCF Media.
“When Valencia CF called us at the beginning of the year, they gave us a place where we could distribute food with dignity. We spoke with President Anil Murthy and since then everything has been an advantage for us. I am very happy. I estimate that between now and Christmas we can reach 10,000 people, and that they will receive their food in an honourable way thanks to Valencia CF and the Banco de Alimentos. We continue to operate thanks to the financial support of the La Caixa social project, our volunteers and the collaboration of Valencia CF.”
